I had to make a Cootie Catcher for my last InDesign project. I got full points and this comment from my professor, “Clean and simple but one of the only one’s turned in that actually is correct and works!” Why does it sound to me like “clean and simple” is a bad thing? What’s wrong with clean and simple?! That’s a cut-and-pasted comment, by the way, the bad punctuation is all hers.
It may seem overly critical of me to point out punctuation mistakes made by my professors. Given the many other, and regular, mistakes in her correspondence, however, I don’t think I am being overly critical at all. Her regular use of then in place of than alone is enough to set my teeth on edge. I expect more from a “professor”! Oh, wait. I expected to be taught too, and that isn’t happening. I am given assignments and grades, but no actual instruction or lecture. So, I see now, I am being completely unreasonable. The once valuable title of Professor is, apparently, being purchased on eBay now. I can see no other explanation for my recent collegiate experiences.
